What were you doing prior to entering the seminary? I was a student at Burlington County College. Over the summer, I also helped teach at my karate school.
What influenced your decision to enter the seminary? I think that listening to Priests give their vocation stories helped me to realize that a call from God is not an (outwardly) miraculous event- God calls through very normal means. Anyway, by the time I was twelve or thirteen, I was convinced that I wanted to be a Priest. Once I began to show interest, my parents were very supportive- saying that they had my back no matter what I decided to do. From there, I went to a bunch of retreats and discernment meetings, and learned more and more about the seminary environment. I never really looked back.
Advice to other young men considering the priesthood? Pray. Tell God everything and ask for His will. Sometimes, that’s all you can really do. For everyone in discernment, there will be times where you will look back and say, “I’m not sure about this” – but there’s only one way to find out. Remember, God’s voice is the only one that matters, don’t worry about disappointing or upsetting other people. He has it under control.
