All About That Grace

It’s easy to see that living a devout Christian life is not a normal thing. Even more so, following Jesus’ call to priesthood is a unique call. We hear the phrase “counter-cultural” often describing this Catholic way of living: choosing to do what pleases God rather than what society perceives as “normal”. Jesus preached this same message: “You cannot serve both God and mammon.” Does that mean we live in an isolated box separated from those who choose to go against God’s will? Absolutely not! We are all sinners, and having the grace of humility helps us never to judge ourselves better than others. Yet, God gives us the grace to become like him: to find Jesus in the everyday, ordinary actions of life. The saints practiced this so well! May this Lent especially help us to think about the areas where God somehow separated from our day-to-day actions. For example, we could say a quick prayer before we start our homework, asking for God’s assistance.

Here are the song lyrics to a popular song you might recognize, with a theological twist!

Because you know
I’m all about that grace
‘Bout that grace, no trouble

Yeah, it’s pretty clear, God’s calling us to love
And we can live it, live it
Serve Him who reigns above.
‘Cause I got that grace he gives that all the saints used
do say your prayers, there’s nothing to lose.

People have been talkin’, saying God ain’t real
We know that’s just not true
C’mon now, that’s just rude.
That Eucharistic feast, Christ died for you
‘Cause every inch of you
He loves From the bottom to the top.

Mother Mary she told me don’t worry about your pride
She says, “Say yes some more to God each and every night.”
You know Christ never stops working, he’s keeping us by his side
So be holy, it’s what we are called to; truth is God is right.

Because you know I’m all about that grace
‘Bout that grace, no trouble.

Hey! I’m bringing Jesus back!
Go ahead and tell them where them Gospels at.
Yes I am preaching, I know you think you’re sad,
But I’m here to tell ya:
Every inch of you God made, from the bottom to the top.

Mother Mary she told me don’t worry about your pride
She says, “Say yes some more to God each and every night.”
You know Christ never stops working, he keeps us by his side
So be holy, that’s what we are called to do, truth is God is right.

Because you know I’m all about that grace
‘Bout that grace, no trouble
